Did you know you need energy to move? This month we find out about a special energy.

You find it in objects that are high up in the air or stretchy rubber bands or compressed springs. Scientists call it potential energy.

ACTIVITIES COMING YOUR WAY

Play 1: Swing It

Make your own pendulum with a funnel and some yarn. Add some paint and watch energy at work.

Stuff you need from home:
Water, scissors, ruler and newspapers (or you can just go outdoors).

Play 2: Blast Off

Turn a balloon into a big bag of energy. Don’t blink! It’ll whizz right past. You don’t want to miss it.

Stuff you need from home:
Chairs or something to tie the twine to.

Play 3: Race Away

Don’t you just love those pull back race cars? Now you can make your own rubber band powered car. Assemble the parts, wind up your car and you’re ready to go!

Stuff you need from home:
Nothing. It’s all in the box.
